Flood

It rained in the bay of plenty. It rained so hard that at one point the gutters on our deck were spewing forth water instead of draining it. The rain came down so hard and fast that part of the major highway was washed away. Even the Tauranga Hospital Emergency Department developed some water damage in some of the rooms. Thankfully, there are no major casualties in the city that I know of. Sadly, some people did lose their homes. Here is the report from the Bay of Plenty Times:

“Tauranga’s sodden misery

Shocked Tauranga residents were today still trying to come to terms with the enormous destruction caused by the city’s worst flood in nearly a century. Landslides badly damaged at least 15 houses in Otumoetai and Welcome Bay and many of them will be written off, including four in Landscape Rd.”

You can read more here.

We were much more fortunate. We escaped most of the rain. We did develop a leak in the ceiling of our apartment which forced us to move to a new apartment. To our good fortune this apartment is larger and has a view of the mount and the bay.
