ANZAC
Yesterday was ANZAC Day. Click here to see photos of the memorial services.
I got up at 5:00 in the morning to go to a dawn service. I was amazed to see thousands of people when I got there. Not only veterans, but families, little kids, dogs, and teenagers. It was so crowded I couldn’t see the parade or the beach on the other side. ANZAC stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corps. ANZAC day is a time to honor the soldiers who died to keep this land peaceful. It is a bit like Memorial Day in the US, but much more solemn.

Pohutukawa
The pohutukawa is a part of the national flora of New Zealand. It blooms in the summer months, December through February, in bright red colors, giving it the nickname of the “New Zealand Christmas tree”. Pohutukawa are abundant in this region, which made it quite beautiful when we arrived. Now the autumn weather is coming in force and we won’t have the red blooms around much longer.
Living here, it is so easy to appreciate the grandeur of this world that God created. It has been wonderful to become familiar with the flora and fauna of another part of the planet. God’s creativity is so evident in our world. In the lands he formed, the plants and animals, the oceans teeming with life, and the peoples that inhabit the world. We are all blessed to see and know so much. Blessed to be formed by his hands and created in love.

Frodo and the fountain of doom
For those diehard LOTR fans out there, have I got a treat for you. It’s a lesser known LOTR fan site, one that’s not in any of the location guidebooks. So this is a site that is not actually IN any of the movies. But it has special Frodo significance.
__ Warning: To those with small children or weak stomachs, this is a good time to quit reading.__

The Mystery of Silk
![]()
Two to Three Thousand years ago Chinese people were producing silk. They had unraveled the mystery of taking this natural resource and creating a wonderful fabric. This fabric was so special that the secrets of its production were protected by an imperial order of death. What motivated Chinese people 3 thousand years ago to spend the time to develop the process of making this fabric? Wouldn’t they have been consumed with the process of just securing food, shelter, safety let alone developing luxury textiles.
