[Book Review] Intuitive Leadership

It’s been a long time since I read a book that I couldn’t put down… And the book was most likely a work of fiction. But this one is most certainly real stuff, as non-fiction as you can get. And even though I’m not a church leader, per se, something about Intuitive Leadership – Embracing a Paradigm of Narrative, Metaphor & Chaos, the latest literary endeavor by Jacob’s Well Church pastor and Emergent Village co-founder, Tim Keel drew me in, bound my imagination, and wouldn’t let me go until I turned the last page. Keel’s experience, not only as a pastor and teacher, but as an artist, allowed him to effortlessly create a dialog that is as flowing and natural as it is compelling. This is a narrative that was forged as much by limber fingers dancing lightly (and sometimes very heavily) on the keyboard of a laptop computer as it was by dipping brush after brush into a multitude of jars of pigment. Keel’s words leapt off of each page as if he were sitting right in front of me, narrating the very text that I was reading.

A few days ago, I mentioned how blessed we are by friends who take it upon themselves to bring us food. It is such a huge help for us right now and we can’t come up with enough words of gratitude for them. Our friends are an incredible portrait of God’s love for our family.

My gripe(s) about the new Garnet VM for maemo...

Ok, so admittedly, something very cool just happened for our maemo community: the ACCESS Garnet VM (virtual machine) was just released. Garnet (formerly PalmOS) is a one-click install that instantly provides access to the over 30,000 applications available for Palm devices on the maemo platform.

Awesome, right? Yes! (Seriously, I love it!) But, what would I have done differently?

Getting better, but...

Last night, I tried sleeping in my own bed since coming home. As expected, I kept Julianna up all night. Aside frome the two times I have to have my alarm wake me up so that I can keep on top of my pain meds, I guess I moan and groan an awful lot. Even with an ice pack on my leg all night, I get really hot too — I woke up this morning in a puddle of sweat.

Vagalume...

I only choose to spotlight those maemo apps that I truly love. If you’ll remember, a recent one was PyChord (you can read what I think about it here). Now, I must take some time to thank Alberto Garcia Gonzalez for developing Vagalume Last.fm Player for maemo.

How to survive laying in bed for two weeks (plus four more weeks and counting)...

Many people think it’s pretty amazing that I have been able to lay in bed for two weeks and not go out of my mind — especially knowing that I have 4 +/- weeks to go…

Where I'm at...

Last night was terrifying. I woke up at midnight-on-the-dot. I was in pain. I was uncomfortable. But, it was strange. It felt like my hip joint was trying to break free from the socket — like the upper-most part of my left femur was pushing outwards. I didn’t know what to do. I was alone. I was scared. I cried. After about half an hour of trying to reposition myself (which, mind you, there aren’t that many positions I can lay in these days), I finally took some pain meds. They seemed to help and I think I drifted off to sleep.

At eight days after surgery, this was unexpected, but that’s sort of how things are going: unexpectedly. Sometimes everything is great. Sometimes I feel like I’m in utter despair.
