Few and far between...
Can anyone guess where I’ve been? Well, there’s school. There’s teaching. There’s freelance work. Then, there’s going up to visit friends in Washington for Thanksgiving. There’s preparing for the ends of the semesters for two of the aforementioned activities. There’s getting totally sick. Last, there’s a truck that sounds like it’s going to die.
I feel bad. It seems like every update I put up here seems to be an excuse for why I haven’t written any updates! Well, since I drank a triple Latte tonight and I can’t sleep, I thought this would be a good time to rectify the situation.
1. School
School is going well for the most part, but due to the fact that I stupidly took on a bunch of teaching assistant jobs, it’s been way too busy. I’m trying to change the situation next semester, but I don’t know how well I’ll do. I’m a little bummed that I won’t be finishing my Marienette in my…Marienette class. My film is coming along fairly well. I got to see some footage that I shot on the Oxberry today and it looks pretty good (though, I don’t know if I’ll be using it — the cool thing is that I know the idea works). Also, I roughed out a storyboard today that I’m pretty happy with. This week is the last week of the semester and I’m looking forward to Winter break, but I also feel like the semester was just too short!
2. Teaching
This is the last week of the semester where I teach, as well (except for Final day next week). I’m kind of psyched that I got a good friend of mine and my ex-boss to take part in the class’ final — their job will be to evaluate the class’ projects and tell the students if their projects are worthy of being invested in. Should be fun. Anyway, while this semester wasn’t the most inspiring for me, I’m looking forward to next semester and a little idea I have for changing the way I teach the class. (More later.)
3. Freelance Work
Not much to say here. I was doing a bunch (and I guess I can lump a couple ideas that I’m working on with friends into this category), but I’m starting to appreciate the value of knowing how to say, “No.” No more jobs for a while for me. (Yeah, right!)
4. Thanksgiving in Washington
I went up to visit my good friends Brad and Kelly in Washington for Thanksgiving! It was actually the first time that I had ever been away from my parents for the holiday. (No biggie really.) Anyway, I had a blast hanging out with my friends and their family. It was cold and rainy, but we still got to have some fun. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, we all went up to Vancouver, Canada for Sushi. That was rad. All in all, I came back from the trip with the seriously intense feeling that one should do whatever it takes to maintain true friendships. I hope I can do this for the rest of my life.
5. Getting Sick
I have been sick for about a week now. Last weekend was the worst of it, though, and I feel like I’m getting better. I just wish I could shake the annoying cough and nasal drip. Eeeewwww!
6. My Truck
Some of you may remember that I had to get a new engine for my truck last year — actually, it was a year ago exactly to the week! This week, my truck is sounding like it is about to explode. I hope it doesn’t. Looks like my trip to the mechanic may become an annual affair. (I should have bought that BMW when I had a chance!)
7. Winter Break
I’m really hoping to go out and visit my brother and his wife, in Missouri, during New Year’s. It would be freezing cold, but fun, I think. I’m trying to work it out so that I can use some credit that I supposedly have with Delta Airlines, but they’re trying to give me trouble about it. Hopefully, I’ll clear that up tomorrow. Other than that, I’ll be working on my film ( another BIG “I hope” ) and relaxing. We’ll see!
All right, so that’s about it for now. I really hope my next update doesn’t take as long to get up here.
See ya.
