Saying "goodbye"...
Yesterday, we left St. Louis, where we said one “goodbye,” to come home to yet another “goodbye.”
This weekend, we went to visit our friends Rob and Erica Lam (pictured — click to enlarge) who are leaving for Tasmania on July 22nd. Rob is a doctor who has been given the opportuniy to do some travel in order that he work in an ER in Tasmania. Between Kansas City and Tasmania, Rob and Erica took some time to move most of their belongings out to Rob’s Parents’ house in St. Louis (where they have been for about two weeks), after which they will spend a few days in Fiji (how rough is that?!).
We have had a number of chances to say “goodbye” to our good friends, Rob and Erica, but Julianna and I thought it would be fun to see them one last time. We had a lot of fun with Rob and Erica in St. Louis, too.
When we got to St. Louis on Friday night, we went to an amazing dinner at Cunetto House of Pasta at “the Hill,” followed by a walk (and a couple of stops) in Soulard. St. Louis is such a great city.
On Saturday, we had a relaxing morning and then went to Forest Park, where we went to play around at the Science Center and see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban at the Omnimax Theater. (In between those two events, we met a couple of friends of Rob and Erica’s for lunch at a great deli called Companion Bakehouse and Café.)
All of this fun had to end sometime, though, and once again, we had to say “goodbye.” Rob and Erica will be gone for at least a year.
Upon our return home, in Kansas City, Julianna and I had to call my brother and his family (still at my our parent’s house in California). Luke, Sarah, Corban, and Lydia left early this morning (1:00am PST) for Southeast Asia — at 25-hour flight with a three-hour layover in Tapei.
Luke and his family will be gone for four years to begin with (they are supposed to come back to the U.S. after the first term for a break and then go back to Southeast Asia for another four years). Julianna and I are so thankful that we got to see them a lot over the laster few years — first when they still lived here in Kansas City and second with a few trips down to see them while they lived in Dallas (not to mention the couple of trips out to California to be with the entire family).
We are going to miss both our friends and our family.
We are praying for you guys! God be with you all.
