Perhaps this is a very stuppid question but what is the benefit of trackback?

Trackbacks are, in my opinion, crucial to blogging — they are what tie Blogs together by providing links to common threads all over the internet. Let’s say you found a link on another site that inspired a Blog entry… What you would do is write about what you want to write about and then Ping the site you got the idea from. From then on, the other site would have a referring link to your site — and the outcome is a two “nodes,” “linked” together, forming a “cluster.” (If you want to know what I’m talking about, read up on a little Network Theory.)
Most major blogging systems have Trackbacking built in (as well as Trackbacking Auto-Discovery). Pivot doesn’t…yet.

Thanks Tim, that could be a verry handy tool. Perhaps I should add it to my site as well.
