September CAT meeting (a photo essay)...
This month at the CAT meeting, we got to see a presentation on the new MAX (Metro Area Express) bus plan and see the MAX sign and shelter — which are pretty cool looking, as you can see. The shelter has a newly designed bench and provides great shade and air-draft. The sign has a real-time bus schedule on a scrolling marquee.
Nice work, Metro.
I’m still unsure of the complete benefits of the MAX bus as compared with how much it is going to cost, but the Metro staff appear to be really pulling for it to be a success. Based off of the design of the shelter and the new busses alone, I can’t wait to try out the MAX when it is in operation next Spring.

uh…. the sign has a big hole in it and the location is written vertically…. DUMB. Take it back, Tim. Make them change with your powers of persuasion and over-concerned local – nerdiness… you can do it!

Well, I like it anyway… It’s supposed to be more of a landmark than something that should immediately tell people what it is — people will know to look for the big hole/vertical location thing.

Tim, have they released any pictures of what the new buses will look like? I know they wanted to work with a manufacturer to make a custom bus… sketchy. Also, are they gonna run by the Performing Arts Center even though it’s gonna be a hole in the ground for the next 5 years (if it even gets that far).

Hey, Kyle… Thanks for commenting.
They haven’t released photos publicly yet, but we did get to see some in the meeting. The bus looks very cool and has a lot of “coach”-like ammenities (e.g., more leg-room, higher off the ground, etc.).
The first MAX bus is basically going to replace the 56, so I don’t think that one will run by the PAC. In the future, if this one proves to work well, they will convert other major gateways to the MAX system.
