Hey, so curiously, did you serve REAL turkey or something that was processed by the vegan food administration? the carignans all say hello, happy thanksgiving to you as well.

So, turkey. dare i spit in the face of tradition but really, do we really have to have turkey anymore? we’ve complied with 400 plus years of tradition, i would be thankful to NOT eat turkey for thanksgiving. am i wrong? just curious if anyone else feels the way i do. i am content with chicken tacos (cause im half mexican you see) so why not for thanksgiving? hey, dominos is open! order a large pizza and the breadsticks for an extra 59 cents… hey, why not? its thanksgiving! right?

dennis, NO. Thanksgiving is Turkey Day. (although some people have ham. and that’s okay).

jared () - November 29, 2004 at 2:28 pm

Well, I must chime in and say that I don’t think turkey is a neccessity at all… We made a turkey (and, yes, Dennis, it was a real turkey) because we wanted to make a traditional dinner for our guests. BUT, some of my fondest Thanksgiving memories are of when my family went to eat at a restaurant — one year we got to partake in a gourmet buffet up in Arcate, CA that was serving everything but turkey. And, since all of us kids moved out of my parents’ house, my parents have kept up the tradition of going to a restaurant every Thanksgiving.

In defense of turkey, though, I must say that I do like the effects of tryptophan — which is why I posted the picture on this entry… And, being that I’m not a ham eater, I will happily settle for turkey at any Thanksgiving dinner.

Now, as for Mexican holiday traditions… I’m all for ‘em! In fact, even though we’re not Mexican, my family has adhered to the age-old practice of making tamales ever Christmas for as long as I can remember. My dad grew up in East L.A. and well…that’s another story.

So, whatever you eat (or ate) at Thanksgiving… More power to ya.

My family had turkey, but Mom made me a chicken breast cooked to Mom-only perfection. I did have turkey the next day… I just prefer chicken. Mmm.. chicken…

Chicken! i agree kevin. Jared, return to stiff-and-rigid-land. tim, wish i knew that i would have put your parents on my who to visit on thanksgiving list… tamales, here i come. i’ll call’em now. i like the restaurant thing too. once, my buddy tyler and i went to roundtable pizza for thanksgiving.

Dennisthemenace () - November 29, 2004 at 6:33 pm

oh and ham is just yucky.

Dennisthemenace () - November 29, 2004 at 6:34 pm

stiff and rigid my ankle, denny. you asked our opinion, i gave mine. dont shout me down cause you dont like it.
id eat chicken. and heck yeah, bring on the mexican dishes. yum. also not a huge ham fan, myself, but it is a popular thanksgiving dish so i thought id mention it. but turkey is a thanksgiving staple. gotta have the turkey. save dominos and tacos for the other 51 weekends in the year.
