My new mandolin...

My MandolinI just received the mandolin pictured here in the mail. It’s sort of a self-bought, early birthday present, I guess. Julianna is buying me — us — a grill, so I figured I should get something that was just mine (I’m so selfish!).

I already broke a string trying to tune the thing. Is that a sign?

I’ve never owned a mandolin before, so I’m looking forward to playing around with it. The chords seems fairly simple and I’ve already put a few together into a song of sorts.

Fun times ahead!

So are you coming to the Walnut Valley Festival with us this fall then?? We need people at our campsite who actually play instruments as opposed to just dancing around humming!!

Oh, you’ll have to talk to Ashley and I, 4 days of camping with bluegrass on 5 official stages, and one unofficial stage— it’s more fun than a barrel of opossums, I assure you!!

You’ll love it, Tim. I started playing mandolin when I was 19 (now I’m 51). It gave me so much fun over the years. There’s such a wide range of musical styles you can play with one. Best of luck.

Steve ~ Yeah, I’m really looking forward to it… I wanted to take my guitar on this past weekend’s retreat I went on, but there wasn’t enough room. I should have just taken the mandolin, but I wasn’t thinking. Arg!
