Stickin' it to the man (and Tom Cruise)...

Last night, and I decided to pull another sneaky double-feature at the movies. This was the second time we had done this as a couple. It was not a difficult task — the second movie was due to begin just shortly after getting out of our paid-for flick. But here’s where it gets a little weird…

The first time, we paid to see (co-starring ) and then snuck into (co-starring ). We didn’t plan on seeing these two movies on the same night, starring recent divorcées, so it was humorous that we landed on this coincidence.

Last night, we paid to see a matinée showing of (co-starring ). We went with a bunch of friends from church. It was a good time and we all thoroughly enjoyed the movie (in fact, all of my expectations were pleasantly met).

Batman Begins

When the movie was over and we were all walking towards the exit, Julianna and I noticed that War of the Worlds (co-starring Tom Cruise) was about to begin. We looked at each other, smiled (getting the same idea at once), and asked our friends if they would like to join us in sneaking into the theater. No one took us up on the offer, so we quickly entered and took our seats.

War of the Worlds

Here’s the thing… I didn’t really want to see War of the Worlds. Besides the fact that it didn’t look all that great in the trailers, after all of Tom Cruise’s recent media antics, I really didn’t feel like supporting him with my hard-earned money. But, being that we weren’t actually paying to see the movie, I thought I might as well see if the movie was a good one — which, incidentally, I don’t think it was (the ending was horrible!).

So, here’s where the realization of the weirdness came to us. As we were sitting in the theater, waiting for the the movie to start, Julianna and I both realized that we were pulling our sneaky double-feature with Tom Cruise for the second time. And, not only that, but we were pulling it with films that co-starred Tom Cruise’s love interests. Sounds like we have some problems doesn’t it?

Still, I was extremely happy that we paid for Nicole’s and Katie’s movies rather than Tom’s — although I understand that supporting Katie Holmes may be pretty similar to supporting Tom, but I guess I’d rather be indirect.

Second coincidence of the night? was in both movies as well! (Although Freeman was just the narrator in War of the Worlds.)

Maybe the next one of these we pull off will yield similar results. Stay tuned…

Here’s to stickin’ it to the man. Two movies for $5 sounds a lot more reasonable to me.

Yeah, I already read your post about it — and I knew you liked the movie… I didn’t, though. Oh, well.

If only you’d had more time, you could have gone to see Bewitched…
