The National Museum of Worship...
I had a dream a few nights ago about being in the “National Museum of Worship.” It was pretty funny. I was there with my wife and a few other friends.
The museum was huge — think LACMA or MOMA or something. The floors were made of reflective marble and the ceilings were highly vaulted and decorative. There were padded benches that ran down the length of every hallway. There was even a food court near the entrance.
Every wing of the museum had a different “concentration” (e.g., “Pentacostal,” “Southern Baptist,” “Eastern Orthodox,” Cults & Sects,” etc.) and each of the wings was filled with various rooms containing artwork, musical instruments, photographs, film-viewing areas — anything that would assist in displaying that wing’s style of worship.
Each wing also had a number of chapels where one could go to actually take part in a worship service. The services were set up on time schedules (just like presentations at any museum). We were just in time for one of the presentations to begin in the “Cults & Sects” wing, so we quickly hurried over to take out seats in the chapel. We were the only ones in attendace and we didn’t really know what “cult” or “sect” was being presented.
Almost immediately after entering the chapel, the lights dimmed and the service started. Five people walked out from behind a curtain onto the stage, all carrying candles and looking relatively grim. They circled around the podium and just as they began to speak…
I woke up!
Oh, man!
Anyway, I appreciate first-time dreams like that… Wouldn’t it be crazy if there actually was a museum like that?
