Three-year cycle...
It took me all of three years to complete, but I finally did. Over 2600 pages later, I’m finally able to put down Neal Stephenson‘s The Baroque Cycle.
I’ve spoken of my love for Stepheson’s writing here before. I really just can’t get enough of him. And, I’m not alone in that — it used to be that I could think myself pretty cool for knowing about this crazy cyberpunk/historical-fiction/eco-thriller/cryptography expert, but anymore, it seems like everyone who’s anyone knows who Neal Stephenson is.
But, I digress…
I highly recommend these novels (or, this novel, if you look at all of them as one work). Don’t let the fact that it took me three years to read them all discourage you. I have friends who whacked them down like they were one hundred-fifty paged pulp fiction books. I’m just a really slow reader. And, in my defense, I’ve thrown in countless other books during that time period as well.
If you do want an idea about what these books are all about — and, seriously, they’re pretty much about everything — go to the Wikipedia link I gave above (or here, whatever).
