I need help choosing a PDA!

Seriously. I am at my wit’s end in trying to decide…

Here are the current contendors (not in order and not necessarily limited to):

  • (although two things bug me: [1] the reviews of its sluggishness and poor audio playback; [2] the fact that it’s almost two years old — and there are no current reports of a LifeDrive 2)
  • (great price, great size, great features, but I sure wish it had a microphone)
  • (a little pricey, but all of the reviews are positive)

I think I’m leaning towards the LifeDrive — for all of the options and the 4GB hard drive — but, I would love to know if there’s something new on horizon. I don’t need a SmartPhone, so some of those options are out. In truth, I’d love to give a company the specs I’d like to see and have them build one for me — for around $299. (Sound feasible?)

Anyway, what are your opinions? I’ve probably read every review there is to read, so I’d love to hear some real-world experiences.

I want something small, but it doesn’t have to be tiny (I got very used to my 60GB iPod after all). It should have audio recording and video playback capabilities. Wifi and Bluetooth are necessities. VOIP/Skype would be a great addition, but not completely necessary. A camera would be nice, but I wouldn’t die without one. I’d like the SD expansion option. I’m equally sold on Palm OS and Windows Mobile (although I have years of Palm OS experience). While hard drives are nice, I am fine with non-volitile ROM — especially if I decide to choose by size alone.

Let me know!

Hi
I would like to recommend to you Sony Ericsoon P990i. This is from a fellow KCer ( KCer is a short form for another Keratoconus folk)
you take care
Cheers

Thanks, KSK... Being that I like in Kansas City, “KCer” could mean a lot of things! :-)

The Sony Smartphones are cool, but as I said, I’m not really looking for a phone, per se. The Qwerty keyboard is nice, but for +/- $600, the i-Mate products might suit me better (the higher-end ones use EDGE wireless technology after all).

My wife has been very happy with her TX. The built-in WiFi is handy, even though it’s not a great surfing tool. The design is nice. It packs a lot of features for the price. And it’s been very stable. The SD card slot is damned handy, too.

Thanks, Wheat… I am strongly leaning towards the TX.
