Patrick McNeil, author of DesignMeltdown.com has recently finished a book entitled, The Web Designer’s Idea Book – The Ultimate Guide To Themes, Trends & Styles In Website Design.

And, guess what… Yours truly (well, this blog, at least) is featured on page 66!

Here’s the description from Amazon:

The Web Designer’s Idea Book includes more than 700 websites arranged thematically, so you can find inspiration for layout, color, style and more. Author Patrick McNeil has cataloged more than 20,000 sites on his website, and showcased in this book are the very best examples.

Sites are organized by color, design style, type, theme, element and structure. It’s easy to use and reference again and again, whether you’re talking with a co-worker or discussing website design options with a client. As a handy desk reference for design layout, color and style, this book is a must-have for starting new projects.

I’ve been frequenting McNeil’s DesignMeltdown site for quite some time now and I’m really looking forward to checking out his new book. You should too!

Ok. So, I am pretty flipping excited. Nokia has just approved sponsorship for me to travel to Berlin (as in Germany) this September for the OSiM World and the first annual Maemo Summit conferences!

I am excited for several reasons:

OSiM World is rad.

I get to meet a bunch of my fellow maemo.org cohort. (I can’t wait to see all of you!)

I get to immerse myself in two straight days of Maemo goodness. (Maybe even document it in some sort of special way.)

And, well… I’ve never been to Europe! (Really.)

Seriously… This is more exciting than I could ever express here.

Thank you Nokia/Maemo — and, most notably, Quim — for continuing to support this community in such an amazing way.

Ok, so… It’s my birthday today. I’m 36-years old — on the downhill towards 40. (Fun times?)

I realized the other day that there is something I never mentioned here on my blog (and maybe not even to my parents). It’s a really huge thing too and I don’t know why I never brought it up. Last year (while 35-years old), I filed for my first patent! Seriously. Myself, along with four others that I work with put together an idea that will now and forevermore be known as:

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR REDUCING EMPLOYEE TRAINING TIME
AND DISTRIBUTING CORPORATE AND JOB INFORMATION
TO EMPLOYEES

Cool, no?

So, what is it? Well, it would take too much time to explain here. But, it is basically a new paradigm for creating and delivering XML feeds — not much new technologically, but very new considering the systems and methods for utilizing it. Think of it as a highly-administrated form of niche-blogging and targeted RSS generation for specific company employees. (I know, I sound really smart right now — please, send me your adoration.)

All kidding aside, I am pretty proud. And, to commemorate the moment, here is a photo of me being presented with a certificate from my company CEO.
